Mrsjones5, have you read any of the novels by the Canadian collective who use the name Michael Slade?
"His" first work was "Headhunter" (May 1985). I think he's got about 17 titles under his belt now. Very good writing. I think you might enjoy it.

Is it a sign from Jehovah or just irony?
by dissonance_resolved inso i signed up to volunteer at a local urban community center- first time i've ever volunteered for a non-jw effort.
i thought i would end up cleaning, organizing, something like that, but the first thing they wanted us to do was go door to door in the neighborhood handing out flyers!
face palm...

You have to fill that time with something of value to you, you shouldn't leave that time empty.
TIME heals, in large doses.

Family is drawing the line in the sand
by dissonance_resolved inso my family has obviously been noticing over the past several months that i've been missing meetings and fs.
i've had excuses sometimes, but not others, so my parents are definitely getting that this is more than a long bout of illnesses or fatigue.
i just received an email invitation to join them in service this weekend.

Tell them you will be there and then don't show up.
That will show them how much control over you they have.
If pressed for an excuse, just say "something came up, sorry" and let it go at that.

God will forgive me....apparently
by punkofnice ini left the jws and went to a baptist church which was far better than anything i'd known before having been born into the dangerous cult of the watchtower corporation.. having travelled a path of spirituallity i have concluded that there is no god evident to me.
evolution?
i have no idea...i just live my life knowing that when i die there is nothing after it.

You are forgiven. Go your way, and believe no more.

ShirleyW: HELLO!
You said, "... we had a Circuit Servant, Bro., Wiegel, in the early 70's..."
Shirley, my dear, YOU are the first person other then I who has mentioned good ol' pain-in-the-ass "Weasel Weigel"!!! It it SUCH a pleasure to find even one person with whom I shared a fleeting bit of reality!
Weasel was widely disliked, so it figures he has moved up the ranks in the JW pantheon. Do you recall the really nice CS who followed Weasel. He was Paul "somebody" - I can't think oh his name right now - I'll call the White House and ask what I was thinking... Haviland! Yes, I think he was Paul Haviland! A really NICE guy, obviously not Watchtower mgmt material...

Theists - Why does Morality require the existence of God?
by cantleave in"without god in your life, you cannot have a moral compass",,,, please explain to me why you think that should be so?

I'm an atheist. I have no fear of judgemnt day.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" says NOTHING about god.
If god-based morality is superior, why is it so ineffective?
The phrase "having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power" is an indictment of the majority of "god-fearing" people of the world.
I agree with Ayn Rand that informed self-interest is a perfect foundation for morality.
